Boats on the River Ogmore

A few late 1950s photograph from a wonderful set of 120-size negatives from the camera of Keith Coles who was a long-standing member of Bridgend & District Camera Club. Keith passed away some years ago and it was thought his collection of photographs and negatives had been subsequently lost for future generations, but I am delighted to have tracked them down and found some little gems amongst them, like these photographs from 1958/9 taken near Portobello on the River Ogmore.

Information supplied by e-mail from Guy Morris states from left to right " Samaki", which was owned by Mr Ralph Walters (Walters Brothers, Builders, Ogmore by Sea), next two owners not known to me (or forgotten!) and the large white boat (far right) was "Salamander", owned by my late father, J.R. (better known as "Jack") Morris, late MD of Messrs J W & E Morris & Son Ltd, Electrical Contractors, Ind Est, Bridgend.

Guy Morris informs us that this shows "Samaki" again, probably with Ralph Walters once more, with the co-owner Brian "Ernie" Reed.

The following information has bee provided by Guy Morris and shows "Araminta", which was owned by Colin Bates and Ron Walters, who both lived at that time in Ogmore-by-Sea. Colin became the Chief Fire Officer for Northumberland, and Ron was another of the famous Walters Brothers of Ogmore-by-Sea.

Thanks to Guy for providing the notes on some of the vessels in these photographs.
