HOPE BAPTIST CHURCH |
|
This section of opobs.co.uk is dedicated to the memory of my grandfather, Stanley James Simmonds, who dedicated his life to his beloved Church. A member for over 70 years he was organist for 57 years until his death in 1977. A plaque is placed on the organ case in Hope Church as a permanent memorial to a man who lived for the love of his Church. A large number of photographs in this section were taken by Mr Simmonds himself. With an interest in photography he was one of the pioneer amateur photographers in Bridgend and his glass negatives have thankfully survived and some are reproduced here. The photographs from the early 1970s were all taken by Michael Stokes (grandson of S.J. Simmonds) and those on this site form only a small part of his very large collection. Feedback on these photographs would be very welcome: mjs@opobs.co.uk |

Part of the Edwin Miles Series of Postcards of Bridgend and District, this photograph shows a number of historical features. The roads are unmade showing the conditions of the streets in the town; there are railway goods wagons in the area which is now used as the station car-park; and the houses on Derwen Road are very interesting. Note also the telegraph poles with their many arms. Photograph © Edwin Miles ~ Courtesy of Natalie Murphy |
