Winter 1963

The Winter of 1963 was one of the coldest Bridgend had seen since 1947. The River Ogmore froze in many parts and in Newbridge Fields it was possible to skate on the ice. Here are few photographs taken during that cold spell.

Sankey's Bridge as viewed from the Bailey Bridge at the bottom of the Rhiw The view from the Bailey Bridge which used to be near the Leisure Centre, looking north towards the town.
The "white bridge" as viewed looking towards the town centre. Schoolboys complete with satchels walk on the frozen river on their way home from school. Photograph taken under the "white bridge" looking towards town.
